WG 2: UAS sensors for atmospheric research
In the first year of activity survey concerning existing meteorological sensors applicable for UAS will be performed. We will identify and describe three groups of sensors:
- for standard measurements (pressure, temperature, humidity, ways to retrieve wind components),
- for turbulence measurements (momentum, sensible and latent heat fluxes for which high resolution 3-D velocity, temperature and humidity measurements are crucial) ;
- for -non-standard measurements (e.g. microphysical measurements in clouds, possibly some aerosol measurements and radiometric measurements, atmospheric trace gases).
In the following years survey will be continued and the data base resulting from the first year will be actualized. The following activities will focus on recommendations, based on experience gathered by partners of COST actions and avalible literature, for use of particular set of sensors and particular type of UAV for various kinds of measurements (this action will be done in coordination with WP3 package). We will also compare various methods used to retrieve all three components of the wind vector along the path of UAV in order to describe structure of turbulence.
